Two of the four Dulux colours of the year were dark shades which was a stark contrast to their 2015 predictions, but one that we believe is here to stay for a while. We have seen this year that colour trends are heading into darker tones, in particular, dark greys and almost-blacks. These colour trends are being seen in both interior and exterior applications and have found their way into the brick trend that is still going strong. We are seeing darker coloured bricks becoming increasingly popular for new commercial and residential builds with the traditional brick wall or dark feature wall now being replaced with a dark brick wall.
A dark brick choice looks fantastic in a kitchen or living area where it can be contrasted with light cabinetry or furniture and is great choice for those looking to create a modern industrial feel when coupled with raw wood and stainless steel appliances.

Dark bricks are also great as an accent on the exterior of buildings such as this one.
Some of our favourite bricks by Austral Bricks are the La Paloma brick in Gaudi – these sleek bricks at just 50mm in height are great for modern designs. The Ultra Smooth Bricks in Rhythm and Jazz would look great as a feature wall in interior applications, or if you are looking for natural stone option, they also offer a Designa Basalt range which is available in three dark tones that would look good in an outdoor entertaining area as a feature.
